February 2012 is going to be a very busy time of year for Sirens Call Publications. We have submissions closing for our first two anthologies; Under the Bed and Twisted Realities: Of Myths and Monsters as well as publishing the first issue of our e-zine, The Sirens Call. We are also super excited to release our first book, Days with the Undead: Book One by Julianne Snow.
Days with the Undead is a journal of survival. Five people set out to escape the Undead who have risen too close to home. Join the emotional and physical struggle as they began on the third day after the awakening of Brooks VanReit, as they are recorded from the point of view of Julie, a former pathologist and part-time survivalist. Each entry is geared toward helping those who want to help themselves and maybe give a few that don’t a swift kick in the ass. Join our group of survivors on their journey through these Days with the Undead.
Here’s an excerpt to tease and tantalize you!
From Day 17 “…you see more and more of the Undead on the road. They’re just wandering, aimlessly stumbling forward until they hear the rumbling engine of our truck. At that point, all heads turn toward us and the grotesque tableau of the chase is on. We’re in a moving vehicle so the advantage for the most part is ours. We just drive away. There has been the odd scary moment before now; wait, who am I kidding? There have been a tremendous number of times when the Undead have outnumbered us by at least five to one and have somehow seemed able to mob the truck just at the exact moment that we were passing through.
It’s at its worst in the middle of the night. You have no idea that they’re out there being slowly drawn in by the gleaming headlights of the truck. No idea at all until a slimy hand or two slams up against the window beside your head as you’re daring to sleep. Max and Bob talk a lot about Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. They talk about how this feels so much like what they experienced in Afghanistan as well as after coming home. This time around, though, it’s on a much larger scale.
I think we’re dealing with something a little different. Something a little more insidious. Technically, we’re still in the midst of the war…”
So what did you think? Awesome, right?
