The summer warmth is always welcome after a long winter, but what happens when it becomes unbearable? The 66th issue of The Sirens Call has a sub-theme of Can’t Take the Heat. This theme is open to interpretation. Warm up that creative brain and show us your take on what it means! Scorching heat can come from many places—a burning fire, happenings in the kitchen, a witch’s brew, global warming, a flame thrower, Hades, the Sun itself, or anything you can imagine! Or, it can take on other forms… It’s up to you to cook up something good!
In addition to this issue’s sub-theme, we’re always looking for well-constructed tales and poetry that deliver solid horror and dark fiction.
We’ll be accepting short stories, flash fiction, drabbles, and poetry that fit within the horror/dark fiction genre. We welcome reprints as long as you hold the copyright to the piece.
Your piece can be scary, sullen, emotive, freaky, elegant, have a dark satirical edge to it, or drive fear right into our hearts! #darkfic #flashfic #microfic #darkpoetry – visit sirenscallpub.com for details.

For the past eleven years, we’ve celebrated the death of the year with a death themed Winter call. This year we’re still celebrating the death of 2023, but we’re doing it a little differently.
This issue has a sub-theme of When Hell Freezes Over! We want you to tell us what would happen if Hell were to freeze over and the flames that euphemistically burn below were extinguished. Where would the demons go? Would they make their way to the mortal plain? Would the snuffing of the fire release the souls trapped there? Would a fissure open and swallow part of our world? Or would the Morning Star himself be on the hunt for new turf? Where would the vile souls go if hell were no longer there to collect them… Think mayhem, think madness; think what if Hell froze over?
Beyond this issue’s sub-theme, we’re always looking for well-constructed tales and poetry that deliver solid horror and dark fiction.
We’ll be accepting short stories, flash fiction, drabbles, and poetry that fit within the horror/dark fiction genre. We welcome reprints as long as you hold the copyright to the piece. Your piece can be scary, sullen, emotive, freaky, elegant, have a dark satirical edge to it, or rattle us to the core! #darkfic #flashfic #microfic #darkpoetry – visit sirenscallpub.com for details.

In our world, every day is Halloween and we can’t get enough of it!
The 63rd issue of The Sirens Call Zine has a sub-theme of Halloween. We’re also open to pieces celebrating Samhain, Punkie Night, All Soul’s Day, El Día de los Muertos, Guy Fawkes Night, Mischief Night, Hungry Ghost Festival, Pomona and Obon; you get the idea… Celebrate the dead, and what happens when the veil thins, and you’ll make us happy little horror campers! A small caveat to the restrictions on this call: please do not elevate or defame religion vigorously in your submission unless it’s vital to the storyline. We aren’t looking to celebrate religion, we’re looking to celebrate ghosts, ghouls, and all that can go wrong when the oogie-boogies come out to play.
Beyond this issue’s sub-theme, we’re always looking for well-constructed tales and poetry that deliver solid horror and dark fiction.

I’m Tired by Brent Abell From the Diary of Frank Hill I’m not sure where I want to begin. I can feel the change in the air every time I step outside. Drake feels it too when I let the poor dog outside, and he doesn’t even have the touch about him. I wish I […]

The Coming Storm by Brent Abell The sleepy little town of White Creek is awakening. Deep under the soil, an evil has toiled for centuries plotting to break the binds trapping it beneath the surface. The time is quickly dawning on their return. Each day leaves the magical chains weakened and crumbling. Each day brings […]
